Fleetwood Mac/Lindsey Buckingham ~ Oh Well ~ Pittsburgh Live 2009
Add to EJ Playlist This is an AWESOME live version of ~ Oh Well!! This is from Fleetwood Mac's Pittsburgh, PA ~ March 1, 2009 concert. This was their very first show of this tour!! No offense to the other band members because they were all great, but (in my opinion) Lindsey stole the show. He was AWESOME!! This performance was one of the major highlights of this night for me!! In my opinion, this is one of the best live versions ever done of this song!! I am REALLY thrilled to be able to post clips from this particular show since I was actually at this one!! I was sitting by myself in the third row on the floor (on Lindsey's side of the stage)!! So I had a perfect view of my idol the entire night!! Much thanks to my friend ~ Bill Thomas for giving me permission to post this!! (: Enjoy!! ~Jackie (: |

Fleetwood Mac ~ Say You Will ~ Live
Add to EJ Playlist This is a GREAT live Fleetwood Mac performance of ~ Say You Will!! This is from a 2003 late night show (to promote their Say You Will album). This was their 2nd night in a row on the show. They performed Peacekeeper via the 1st night, which I had posted yesterday. I LOVE Lindsey's guitar solo and back-up vocals on this one!! I originally was not going to post this one since it is a Stevie song. However, a couple of my You Tube pals requested this, so I decided otherwise. Besides, Lindsey is included in this. So, all is well. (lol) Anyways, this is for you ~ izmir2004 and littlelies97. (: No claim or copyright infringement intended. Enjoy!! ~Jackie (: |

Fleetwood Mac - Why 1975
Add to EJ Playlist Love this song especially live, little short though but it's a beautiful song esp. the harmonies on the end! There's no use in crying, it's all over But I know there'll always be another day Well my heart will rise up with the morning sun And the hurt I feel will simply melt away You make me feel, I just can't carry on But I know I won't always be that way 'Cos my heart will rise up with the morning sun And the hurt I feel will simply melt away Christine seems to be dealing with acceptance of where her relationship with John stands. She loves him, but his drinking hurts her tremendously. She not only sees it tearing apart their relationship, but fears for John's health and how his drinking is controlling his behavior. She tries to forget about it each day, and tells herself that he's changing for the better, but in her heart she knows it's not true. John's problems really bother Chris, she feels reponsible for him, but taking care of him is tiring (she "can't carry on"). She at times seems optimistic as she wants to believe that everything will be better in the future. Perhaps she thinks that once the band is a huge success again, all their problems will melt away? Another thought is that she's patiently waiting for the Americans to start buying FM records and for John to stop drinking and become himself again. She misses the John she fell in love with. She remarkably is able to put her hurt feelings aside. She sounds hopeful for the future, but this could be her way of disguising a broken heart. Maybe this song is Christine's way of telling John she wants more from their relationship than he is giving her. Christine seems to be a very sensible lady and wouldn't waste time with self-pity. She wants to get on with her life. She repeats the line "my heart will rise up with the morning sun, and the hurt I feel will simply melt away," as if for emphasis. One way to interpret this phrase is that she has already decided to leave. Despite the hurt she feels now, she knows it's what's best for her, and that she will recover eventually and rise above her current emotional darkness. Her leaving him was, to use Lindsey's words, "a survival move," not because of a lack of love for John, but just something she had to do. In 1977, she told Rolling Stone, "I had to do it for my sanity. If not, I'd have ended up in a lunatic asylum." You don't have to give up Why is it all wrong Why don't you love me Wy won't you just be strong Christine believes in commitment and wants her relationship with the man she loves to work out. She really wants to work at their relationship, but it's getting harder to relate to John. She knows "why" their relationship isn't working - John's drinking. She doesn't understand "why" he doesn't care enough for her to make an effort to stop, and that really hurts her. Perhaps she feels guilty for John's downward spiral into his alcoholism, or for the lack of communication she has with her husband, or for the lack of 'space' they have within their relationship. Certainly, it wasn't her fault completely, but this part of the song is sorrowful. She remembers what they had, but John is no longer strong. Christine has to be the adult. She wants the love back, but first she wants some answers. By the end of the song, it seems that Chris has lost her optimism. At first she was in denial, telling herself that everything would work itself out. Over time, she realizes that her relationship will never work unless both of them are willing to answer the questions she asks, but she knows that neither of them are going to face reality, Chris because she's so in denial and John because he's too busy drinking. Is she writing her swan song of their relationship here? It seems to be a large possibility as both her and John are coming to understand the reality of their relationship - it's not healthy. She tries to accept the situation and move on but she realizes that it's not that simple and she stays with John for a few more years. However, it is also important to note the order of the verses. If they were reversed, the song might be a little more hopeful. Christine doesn't really have the answers to her questions. She realizes that she doesn't know and may never know why her relationship with John isn't working out. She knows she must accept where her life is and move on. Why? She simply wants the pain to end. Save me a place Fleetwood Mac Tusk tour
Add to EJ Playlist with christine mcvie on the guitar! "Save Me a Place," written by Lindsey Buckingham, is perhaps his most hauntingly beautiful song on Fleetwood Mac's 1979 album, Tusk. In my opinion, Lindsey's gutsy decision to make Tusk a more experimental and artist-oriented album is why it is Fleetwood Mac's best. Simple and melodic, "Save Me a Place" is a great example of his faith in himself to follow his heart and not make a commercially stale follow-up to Rumours In "Save Me a Place," Lindsey could be addressing a multitude of people: Stevie, Carol Ann, or Fleetwood Mac in general. I tend to agree with the majority that it is about a woman, most likely Stevie. Whomever he is addressing, there is a sense of longing ... longing for this person to wait for him, because he loves her. Don't know why I have to work Don't know why I can't play Turn me off, turn me out But don't turn me away Save me a place I'll come running if you love me today Lindsey is feeling overwhelmed by the work and demands of Fleetwood Mac. Since Tusk is his baby, he jumped in head first and is involved in every aspect of it, from writing to singing to playing to arranging to producing (although he got shafted on the credit). He loves it, but he has a need for something more ... he loves this woman and wants her to wait for him until the madness fades. Perhaps he was feeling a bit nostalgic for the old days before he was famous, when things were simpler. He didn't have money, but he had true love and a dream. At any rate, he doesn't want her to abandon him. His music as well as his lyrics convey a reverence, a longing for this woman. Don't know why I have to go Don't know why I can't stay Guess I want to be alone And I guess I need to be amazed Save me a place I'll come running if you love me today I'll come running if you love me today What exactly is Lindsey trying to tell us here? He could be telling Stevie that he doesn't understand why they are apart in theory but together in spirit. Lindsey was dating Carol Ann at the time, but I have a feeling he may have been holding back with her in the beginning because he wanted to wait out the situation with Stevie. Their feelings for each other were in a constant state of confusion, as exhibited in this verse. "Don't know why" and "I guess" are not said by a man who understands their relationship or its dynamics. He does know, however, that he wants to feel amazed....by love, by music, by life. He is possibly telling us that in spite of all of the pain, the heartache, the rough times he and Stevie went through....he's right there if she ever decides she wants to try again. Although this song has a very lonely and isolated feel to the music, the ending sounds lighter and more upbeat. For example, the "ooo - ooo's" sound happy. Perhaps he has found inner peace....perhap s he has accepted the fact that he must move on. Or, perhaps he is optimistic that things will work out between Stevie and him....that she will, in fact, save him a place. |
Fleetwood Mac - Second Hand News 1978
Add to EJ Playlist At the end of the rumours tour...Largo 1978 With christine on drums! Stevie: "Lindsey is one strong man" LOLOL In the recently produced "Classic Albums" showcase revolving around the making of the album Rumours, Lindsey Buckingham states that "'Second Hand News' was considered to be the front-runner for the opening track on Rumours, and in doing so, keeping with the pop element since it was a pop album." Aside from being a classic pop song, it is no accident that "Second Hand News" found its place as the first song on Rumours. It is this song that sets the stage for the mood that surrounds Rumours, an album that was created around feelings of hope and heartbreak, resignation and love. Although the uplifting music of "Second Hand News" traps the listener into a world of make-believe happiness, by the end of the song, Lindsey's painful lyrics and emotional guitar solo transcend the song to the silent emptiness that precedes the next chapter of dreams lost to a world of loneliness. Lindsey says that the uplifting dance music of "Second Hand News" consists of "Scottish-Irish -Folk" influences and to get this effect, he opted for more of a dance beat. While creating this song, he had heard "Jive Talking" by the Bee Gees and "pulled a couple of textures from that." Where initially, there was going to be a guitar solo, Lindsey felt that the "presence would be better served with the use of a vocal," thus creating the "bam's," as the vocal part, reinforced by the guitar to give it that classic pop element. According to Lindsey, musically, that is the "essence of the song." Although the music to "Second Hand News" is quite optimistic, the lyrics paint quite a different picture - one of sadness, bitterness and resignation. This is not the first time that Lindsey creates optimism around the music of his songs to clearly disguise his feelings, specifically those that revolved around his relationship with Stevie Nicks. We see the hope-filled confusion that surrounds "Monday Morning," the bittersweet angst in "Go Your Own Way," and the relinquishment and eventual surrender in "Second Hand News." At first listen, "Second Hand News" seems to be about Lindsey lashing out at Stevie with such words as "I ain't gonna miss you when you're gone," however, by looking more deeply at the lyrics, the song, although somewhat simplistic in its verses, tells the tale of Lindsey's feelings of unrequited love. In Lindsey's eyes, he is not living up to whatever expectations Stevie placed on him. Reluctantly, he wishes her "peace of mind" in finding that "big love." I'm just second hand news I'm just second hand news. Lindsey is just second hand news. He is no longer number one. He feels he has been replaced and he will try to be at peace with his thoughts and feelings. It is highly ironic that no matter how hard Lindsey tried to find harmony within himself and his relationship with Stevie over time, he could not really put aside his feelings for her for another 12 years. He was finally able to do his "stuff" on his third solo album, Out of the Cradle. In summary, "Second Hand News" is the story of unrequited love. The feelings in these lyrics can be compared to the pages of a fondly remembered love story that have been re-read years later, only to be recycled again by something thought of as better, since as time passes and things change, what was once cherished is now tossed away. http://www.flee twoodmac.net/pe nguin/interpret ations/s/second handnews.htm |
