Add to EJ Playlist I wish i couldve met Leon Wilkeson before he went home.

Audio/Video is Words of Wisdom by Leon Wilkeson of Lynyrd Skynyrd. An interview/narra tion overdubbed the film footage. The Video clip shows Leon riding happy in his Hot Rod, probably in the country roads of Florida with him narrating the video. I know some of those roads and before most of them were paved, sure was fun to bolt thru them in a hot rod!
Now the cops are everywhere and will give you a ticket for learning how to race on public roads. in the past they were hardly there at all. Thats life in the good ole days.
He speaks of Star Wars being the current hit of the day. I found out this was shot for a Pepsi Promo with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Star Wars was released in late May of 1977 and their tragic crash was Oct 20 1977.
The main thing that really makes sense that he said is to do what you love doing, because that's what you'll be the best at.... and if you can make a living off of what you like doing, then its not really work (even though it is). I believe he's right and that is the way God intended it for us since he gave us our natural gifts. Everyone has at least one thing that they're really good at.
Leon was one of the best bass players the music world's ears have ever had the pleasure. The world lost a great person a little too early when he left.
Add to EJ Playlist This is an interview that my wife and I did with Johnny Van Zant of LYNYRD SKYNYRD. Johnny and his brother, Donnie Van Zant of .38 Special, has been very supportive of the Freebird Outreach Ministry and the "Freebird's Last Flight" presentation. There is are some guitars in the background because Johnny was getting ready to go to the stage and crew was tuning the guitars --but it is a great interview! Johnny explains what the God & Guns title on their new CD means to him.
Add to EJ Playlist This interview is with Jimmie Van Zant, the cousin of the late Ronnie Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd. The Van Zant family has been very good friends and support our ministry "Freebird Outreach Ministry".

Add to EJ Playlist "Red House", Rickey Medlocke & Friends on Simple Man 2010. This event was a benefit for Lana Turner, the 4 year old daughter of Blackberry Smoke drummer Brit Turner, who is fighting cancer. The turn out was fantastic, and I was honored to play on stage for this excellent cause, and with such great musicians. Our prayers are with Lana and her family.
Rickey Medlocke is not only one of the best guitarists/musi cians out there, he is also one of the most generous, down to earth, amazing people you could ever meet. I can't say enough about how great he has always been to me. Thank you Rickey, your awesome!
Rickey's friends in this video include Peter Keys (Skynyrd) and Bobby Capps (.38 Special) on keyboards, Sparky (Skynyrd) on Guitar, Charlie Starr (Blackberry Smoke) on guitar, Robert Kearns (Skynyrd) on Bass, and Tyler Gnere on guitar. It's always amazing to play with guys of this talent, but even more satisfying when it's for such a great cause. Special Thanks to Deb Greenhouse for taking this video. You Rock Deb!
