Roy Buchanan-Green Onions & Short Fuse @ Carnegie Hall in New York City

Add to EJ Playlist  Roy is known as "The World's Greatest Unknown Guitarist". Legend has it that Roy was offered the Stones position that Mick Taylor took. I doubt if the story is true because it was told by Roy to some of his close friends. Roy should be in The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. His first studio recording was with Dale Hawkins back in 1957 on a song called "My Babe" Way before there was a Link Wray,Jeff Beck,Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page,Jimi Hendrix,Pete Townsend and Bob Dylan. They were all big fans of his sound. I have a copy of every recording made by Roy. That's how much i love this guy. He was one of the first to experiment with Pinched Harmonics. Roy also use to wrap his pinky finger around the volume knob, before the creation of The Volume Pedal, to create new sounds which was a technique copied by many Guitar Greats such as Jeff Beck. He also used all his fingers to play his Telecaster just like Jeff Beck does. Jeff Beck was such a big fan of Roy's sound that he dedicated "Cause We've Ended As Lovers" to Roy on his Blow By Blow LP. Jim Morrison @ Asbury Park Convention Hall in N.J. (9/68)

Add to EJ Playlist  This is a video journey to the spot where Jim Morrison was filmed in 1968 on Asbury Park's Convention Hall Pier. The Promoter of all the 1960's shows held at Convention Hall was a guy named Moe Septee. Convention Hall was the Fillmore West of New Jersey. Asbury Park Convention Hall http://en.wikip edia.org/wiki/A sbury_Park_Conv ention_Hall Between 1965 and 1975, Septee booked Black Sabbath, The Beach Boys, James Brown, The Byrds, Ray Charles, The Dave Clark Five, The Doors, The J. Geils Band, Herman's Hermits, Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, KISS, The Rolling Stones, The Temptations, Pink Floyd and The Who, among many others.Led Zeppelin played Convention Hall the evening of August 16, 1969, after their manager, Peter Grant, rejected an invitation to Woodstock. Joe Cocker opened for Led Zeppelin that night, before riding up to Bethel, New York for his opening slot on the festival's third and final (scheduled) day. The hall was also the setting for one of the last few concerts played by the original Lynyrd Skynyrd lineup on July 13, 1977, before their tour plane's fatal crash on October 20, 1977. Eric Clapton,Jeff Beck,Jimmy Page-Layla,With A Little Help @ M.S. G (A.R.M.S. Concert 12-8-83)

Add to EJ Playlist  Eric's best version of Layla because he has his good friends Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page helping him out on this classic. A.R.M.S. Concert http://en.wikip edia.org/wiki/A RMS_concert 00:25 Layla 8:56 With A Little Help From My Friends* (Too bad it's cut short) 15:53 Goodnight Irene (Ronnie Lane with Everybody) The idea for hosting the concert was envisaged by Ronnie Lane, ex-bassist for The Small Faces and The Faces, himself a casualty of multiple sclerosis. The concert was billed as The Ronnie Lane Appeal for ARMS and featured a star-studded line-up of British musicians, including Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Steve Winwood, John Paul Jones, Andy Fairweather-Low , Bill Wyman, Kenney Jones and Charlie Watts. The concert was particularly notable in the fact that it was the first occasion on which Clapton, Beck and Page, each a former lead guitarist for The Yardbirds, had performed together on stage. The ARMS charity concert proved so popular with both the audience and the musicians that the decision was taken to perform a further nine concerts in the USA. The US dates included Joe Cocker, who notably sang lead vocals on "With a Little Help from My Friends", and Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page each shared lead guitar duties on the "Stairway to Heaven" instrumental. While Ronnie Lane appeared in New York, he did not appear at all of the US dates. They played in San Francisco at the Cow Palace on December 2, 1983 for three sold out shows. Also, Steve Winwood was unable to do the American shows and Paul Rodgers was now playing in Page's set. (They later formed The Firm together.)
