The resonance-soste nuto of the harmonic pedal is not limited to holding just one note or chord in sustain, it can be pressed at any time to hold additional notes or chords in layers, in the same way. That's to say, if the pedal is intentionally not completely released, a sequence of notes or chords can be sustained, even when interposing staccato sections in resonance between these notes or chords. Add to EJ Playlist  I took my piano to rural area near the Thai-Burmese border for a week. The Thai side is home to a good number of Karen people that originate from the Burmese side. Some of these people have been displaced in recent times and found themselves without a home. With regular piano movers we took the piano from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi. Then Karen mahouts transported it to their village on a truck used to gather crops. They live in bamboo houses which they make themselves. The Karen mahouts had never seen a piano in reality before. To my surprise they played each day at every opportunity and late into the night by torch light, often several people at a time.
