Dr. Peter Wolcott, 2013 Outstanding Teaching and Instructional Creativity Award (OTICA) Recipient

Add to EJ Playlist  Here's a great video from featuring Peter Wolcott, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Information Systems and Quantitative Analysis at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Dr. Wolcott is a recent recipient of the 2013 Outstanding Teaching and Instructional Creativity Award (OTICA), from the University of Nebraska. This award recognizes individual faculty members who have demonstrated meritorious and sustained records of excellence and creativity in teaching. Wolcott already is an award-winning professor, having received UNO's Excellence in Teaching Award and the Outstanding Service-Learnin g Faculty Award in 2011. In evaluations, students consistently praise his mastery of course content and his ability to communicate it effectively. Wolcott also is committed to service learning, regularly making connections with microenterprise s in Omaha and supervising groups of students who work with those businesses to provide solutions, coaching, skill-building and planning for their technology needs. "The help and empowerment these students provide makes a real difference, and Peter provides the leadership to make that happen," Wolcott's department chair, Ilze Zigurs, wrote in his nomination letter. Biomechanics Research Facility Groundbreaking

Add to EJ Playlist  On Oct. 24, UNO officially "broke ground" on two new building projects, one of which was a new Biomechanics Research Facility, which is the first stand-alone research facility of its kind in the world. This video, put together by the University of Nebraska Foundation, with the help of several biomechanics students, shows off the technology they hope to use and update as part of this investment in important research.

Aquatic Toxicology: Elkhorn River Research Project

Dedication of UNO's Elkhorn River Research Station

Add to EJ Playlist  Friday, April 20 marked the official dedication of UNO's Elkhorn River Research Station. The station, which has been in development since 2007, is designed by the Department of Biology's Alan Kolok to monitor the toxicity levels of the Elkhorn River. Another research station is scheduled to be built along the Platte River in the near future. Just Can It! Kick Off

Add to EJ Playlist  On Monday, April 16 members of the Omaha community joined UNO's Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity in the kick-off event for this year's Just Can It! Food Drive. For the past nine years, Phi Kappa Alpha has joined together to raise awareness and collect canned goods for the homeless by sleeping in makeshift homes made out of cardboard for one week. The project has grown exponentially from its origins with the City of Omaha and other local partners joining together to make the event a success. The goal for this year's drive is 50,000 cans.
