Hydraulic Ram Pump Design #1

Add to EJ Playlist  I used Doug's 2" drive pipe design as a starting point with a different modification to the 2" foot(waste) valve which allows weight to be added from on top rather than unscrewing the foot valve. Cable clamps are used to restrain 3/8" weight nuts on the 5/16" shaft on top of the waste valve. The drive pipe drop is about 4 feet and the drive line length about 25 feet. There is some loss of output due to elastic expansion of the PVC drive pipe and the rebound of the current non-rigid mounting. I discovered that the expansion tank pressure greatly effects the output and the optimum output occurs just before the waste valve becomes unstable and hangs up. The range of output variance with changes in expansion tank pressure is more than 50%. I suspect this instability is why multiple ram pumps are used in parallel where reliability is critical rather than just installing a larger pump. I have some ideas about how to run reliably at the maximim output using more modern technology. Hopefully, after the farmwork slows down, I'll have some time this fall and winter to develop those ideas.

Night Sky Bossa Nova

Add to EJ Playlist  Jane Hall, Cameragirl803, wrote a song of encouragement for her daughter and titled it Night Sky. It's worth going to her channel, reading the lyrics, and listening to her song. If you have a child worried about the future this is a good song to let them know that they matter. When I heard Jane's performance I could hear that it would make an interesting Bossa. With Jane's permission I've adapted it, and it does not include some parts. I would like to make a cleaner version, but for now, there just isn't enough time. Kudos, Jane on a sophisticated and beautiful composition.

Autumn Leaves

Add to EJ Playlist  A beautiful French song with English words by Johnny Mercer. Haven't done a video in more than a year, running a farm and now should have a little time. I created the backing in BIAB and made some variations on the harmony to try to get a warmer, bluesy, feel.

Beautiful Love

Add to EJ Playlist  Another Victor Young/Haven Gillespie(lyric s) tune(1931). Egbert Van Alstyne and Wayne King are also mentioned as co-composers. Had fun with this one. Got lost a few times and didn't know quite how to end it. Definitely will use this in Trio. Many thanks to Hal Crook, a great musician and educator, who provided this backing. I'm studying his signal book on improvisation.

Smile

Add to EJ Playlist  Charlie Chaplin's great encouragement song.

I'm Glad There Is You

Add to EJ Playlist  From Kingoma61: "I'm Glad There is You (In a World of Ordinary People)" was composed by Jimmy Dorsey and Paul Madeira in 1941 and was released as a Decca 78 with Dee Parker on vocals by Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra. This song is a jazz standard that has been covered by everyone from Frank Sinatra to Smokey Robinson to The Temptations and Clay Aiken. Lena Horne performed it on The Muppets Show.

Peg O' My Heart

Add to EJ Playlist  For Stereo add &fmt=18 to the URL. My Grandparents special love song. Grandfather was a musician who played in the local theaters and for dances(early 1920's) Each working night when he brought home his earnings they would put some away for the future they planned and their little girl. He was the love of my Grandmother's life. Sadly, he contracted tuberculosis and died in his late 20's. Though Grandmother married again this was the song that she requested to be played at her funeral. The little girl became my mother. I hope the grandparents are sharing happy times again. This is for you sweethearts.

Autumn In New York

Add to EJ Playlist  I didn't realize that New York state could be so beautiful until I traveled to Long Island on Business. It's as gorgeous as Utah in the Fall. The Big City was also lovely by night and there were great live stage performances - good memories.

Sus Mucho

Add to EJ Playlist  A BIAB generated solo on a new composition that I'm currently writing. It sounded so good I thought someone might enjoy it. I'll be playing the tune in a jam session and taking input from the other players next week so how it eventually turns out is unknown.

How to access Yamaha S 90 ES Key shelf

Add to EJ Playlist  Repair of a punctured key shelf that was affecting keys. A warning about scissor-type keyboard stands. I've currently tied a cord between the upper ends of the stand, but will probably drill and install a safety chain or cable. Make certain the keyboard is unplugged from power and all connecting cables are removed BEFORE beginning any work on the keyboard.

White Christmas

Add to EJ Playlist  The most recognized popular Christmas Song. Fiddling around with a steel drum voice on a Roland Piano

Silent Night

Add to EJ Playlist  Played this on a Roland FP5. Silent Night was written by Franz Gruber & Joseph Mohr for guitar accompaniment. According to legend, the St. Nicholas church organ was defunct and music was needed for the evening service. A poem written in 1816 by Mohr and a melody by organist Gruber were joined to create a song that would have a guitar accompaniment. First performed for the Christmas Eve midnight service on December 24, 1818 and was later forgotten until 1825 when Carl Mauracher was rebuilding the organ at St. Nicholas and found a handwritten copy of the words and music in the organ loft. Silent Night is likely the most recognized spiritual Christmas song, while White Christmas is the most recognized secular Christmas song. The photos are courtesty of FreeFoto.com

Thanksgiving Chinagin

Add to EJ Playlist  A little Thanksgiving Day family, after dinner, silliness. A grandson's chin making faces.

Stella By Starlight

Add to EJ Playlist  Another Victor Young tune that was written as an instrumental for the movie, The Uninvited, a ghost story. It was intended to give a haunting feeling. Lyrics were added later by Ned Washington and the tune became popular as a vocal in 1947. This is just a short piece to try some variations on the harmony.

My Foolish Heart

Add to EJ Playlist  A great song by Victor Young(music) and Ned Washington(lyri cs). This song reminds me of my wonderful companion who came to me late in life. The tune has "ice cream" chord changes and can tolerate some re-harmonizatio n. It will be the standard comparison line for my improvisation development. I'll do another version each time there is some significant progress. The improvisation, is of course, weak, but there is beauty in the tune itself. The bass and drums are Aebersold backing.

Love Is Here To Stay

Add to EJ Playlist  A fun tune that reminds me of my family.

Autumn Leaves

Add to EJ Playlist  Autumn Leaves in Utah. There really is a place in the mountains called Paradise. Autumn Leaves is one of two French melodies that are special to me, the other being, I Wish You Love. Many thanks to Al Stevens (Accompaniments recorded by Al Stevens) for the fine backing and piano improv. My voice is still cracking but getting better.
