The Wallenda act was noted for not using safety nets. On March 22, 1978, at age 73, Wallenda attempted a walk on a high wire between the two towers of the ten-story Condado Plaza Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The wire was 121 ft (37 meters) above the pavement. Wallenda fell to his death when winds exceeded 30 mph (48 kilometers per hour). He was known as "Poppy" to his multi-generatio nal family of daredevil high wire performers who were present. |
