Add to EJ Playlist  When I visited Spokane, Washington and Sandpoint, Idaho in October, I followed radio chatter on my scanner and just chased trains on a whim. By luck, UP 1983 pulling an Officer's Special was in the area, and there were lots of BNSF Z trains to chase.

Add to EJ Playlist  Union Pacific 7400, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness Unit pulled a California Shortline Association Special from Sacramento to Sparks recently. I chased it from Emeryville, where it picked up the UP business cars and private car Silver Lariat, then followed it to Colfax in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Add to EJ Playlist  Here's 4 trains I've caught in the Quad Cities area in the past few weeks. 1. BNSF SD60M, Ex-BN GP50, and BNSF GP38-2 pull short freight in Bettendorf, IA. 2. Iowa Interstate ES44AC and GP38-2 lead a freight in Moline, IL. 3. An ICE GP9 and SD40-2 with DME (Ex-CP Rail) SD40-3 pull Nitrin train in Moline. 4. BNSF Dash 8 and ES44C4 lead a short freight in Davenport, IA.

Add to EJ Playlist  This tour organised by the A1 Steam Trust was notable for the first northbound climb of Shap by A1 Pacific, No.60163, 'Tornado'. Cloudy skies greeted the loco on Shap but good rail conditions made for a fast ascent with steam to spare. The train returned south via the Settle & Carlisle route. Locations in the video are Winwick, Shap Wells, Birkett Common and, running some 80 minutes down, at Langho. As can be seen from mine and other video records of the day, the loco and her crew were in fine, possibly record breaking mood. I understand that unconfirmed reports indicate that she bettered 'Duke of Gloucesters' Shap record by 19 seconds! Grateful thanks to all involved with the locomotive and the tour.

Add to EJ Playlist  The Tehachapi Pass is on the UP Subdivision that runs form Mojave to Bakerfield. BNSF also runs on this subdivision. They have track right from South Mojave to Kern Jct that goes to BNSF Bakerfield yard. Also this pass it home to one of the most famous railroad monuments, the Tehachapi Loop. This pass is a 2.2% grade. Train #1- UP QWCRV- 18 flies by a stopped UP coal train at Fleta. Train #2- A northbound BNSf Z-Train passes a stop southbound BNSF manifest. Train #3- A BNSF Manifest (same one wait in train #3) goes around the loop with 2 NS units. Train #4- A Southbound BNSF manifest with mid train DPU's goes into Tunnel 2. Train #5- Same manifest as before but at the town of Tehachapi. Train #6- A Northbound UP intermodel goes by down town Tehachapi. Train #7- A Northbound BNSF Manifest with an ES44AC leading and a UP AC4400CW behind it. Train #8- An empty BNSF Coil train head south going out of Tunnel 5. Train #9- The empty grain shuttle head south gong by Bealville.

Add to EJ Playlist  On a pleasent, yet cold January morning, the Buck Local picks up its orders in the Longmont, Colorado Yard, after the crew got on duty earlier. After the crew picked up the four units, they proceeded to the yard to pick up 61 cars for Denver, consisting of Box Cars, Tanks Cars, and other freight cars. Before leaving Longmont, the crew called in Fort Worth Mechanical Desk and informed him that their 4th unit, BNSF 6888, was unable to start and was leaking something. In recent of events with freezing temperatures also contributing to the problem with the SD40-2. So the crew informed Mechanical Desk and the Front Range Dispatcher that the unit is DIT and is being taken back to Denver. Once the conductor recieves his warrant from dispatcher TLH, the 61 Car Local proceeds with only 4-Axle Power online and heads for Denver. The train is seen at Ken Pratt Blvd in Southwest Longmont at M.P. 42.

Add to EJ Playlist  The amount of coal transported by rail each year continues to grow. The Burlington Northern and the Chicago & North Western benefit greatly by hauling this coal out of the Powder River Basin of Wyoming. Watch as each railroad uses its own main line, and then work together on the joint line moving the coal out of the state. The Burlington Northern's 5th Sub from east of Gillette, southeast through Newcastle is the easternmost line. This section of railroad hosts much of the BN's coal traffic and also has plenty of general freight and priority trains as well. The Chicago and North Western operates over a section of its old "Cowboy Line" from Crandall to Shawnee toward the mines. On the Powder River Sub, the C&NW's Dash 9-44 and AC4400CW locomotives lead trains along with a sampling of Union Pacific power. Then the two railroads join together on the BN's 10th Sub, which is also the BN/CNW joint line. This corridor is the direct link to a majority of the Powder River Basin coal mines. Copyright 1995, C. The Marshall Subdivision of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe runs from Willmar, Minnesota, to Sioux City, Iowa. This line runs through the rich farmlands of the upper Midwest. There is plenty of variety on this line. Many unit grain trains are common, along with coal trains, taconite trains, general freights and locals. 20 different locomotive models pull 60 trains throughout the video, along with an "in cab" view of the Garretson branch line from Sioux Falls to Garretson, South Dakota.
