My God - Jethro Tull Live at the Isle of Wight 1970

With opening banter included.  'My God,' played here live prior to it's recording and inclusion on the Aqualung LP by the  Mark 2 line-up  featuring: Ian Anderson  (guitar, flute), Martin Barre (electric  guitar), Glenn Cornick (bass guitar),  Clive Bunker (drums)  and John Evan  (keyboards). 

The festival at the Isle  of Wight was the British version of  Woodstock and was held at Afton Down  which is a hill near the village of  Freshwater on the Isle of Wight on  August 26 - August 30, 1970. The  festival was attended by approximately   600,000 people.  Jethro Tull played on  the last day with Jimi Hendrix,  Joan  Baez, Moody Blues, Leonard Cohen, Richie Havens, Everly Brothers, Pentangle, and  Donovan.

No doubt Jethro Tull was a  high point  for everyone in attendance  that day.  It would have been for  me!

chrishutt66yt: Most perverted flute solo ever! Amazing & hilarious! Ian is SO underrated as a "frontman"! It's been acknowledged that he's not into the "drug scene" but I'll bet anyone who was there thought he was "wasted out of his mind!" When if anything he might of just had a few shots of whiskey! Ian don't need drugs! He's crazy enough!

chrishutt66yt: Tull, hard rock? Well maybe! Although I'd say they were "progressive/hard rock"! Sometimes more "prog" Sometimes more "heavy" & when they fuse the two together, they were at there best! & as far as the song goes, Ian always said its nothing against Religion itself! He's just making a point that all religions have ugly history of Using God as an excuse for Manipulation, murder & abuse! Amen Ian!

It's just not the flute, but the total exploration of music and how best to portray what you wish to create through more than just traditional thinking. You don't need to be as good as Ian. Work hard, and let your passion bleed through your art.

ode2joy4u: Ian Anderson is the only artist who can seamlessly go from playing his flute for a song like this,, "My God" - then, play a bit of, "Camptown Ladies", complete with banjo-like sounds created with his magic flute. He is one of a kind, as was the entire band. I saw them more than a dozen times in the 70's. I didn't realize it then, but Ian was prepping me for a love of Beethoven and Bach in the coming years. The circle became complete.
