adamthestimator: What does the abbreviation on the barista's apron mean (IAFSNV)?
adamthestimator: "Deep-down inside..I know a bean's been planted..." :-)
Singin Along: this is hilarious to any church-going Christian who knows God has a sense of humor! love it, thanks for the laugh :)
yearightify: So? Name one other organization that does not have a vested interest in creating new followers/converts? That question is rhetorical because the answer is so obvious. Why wouldn't a church be interested in new converts? Its almost as if you presuppose that a church should be bashful about creating new converts when in fact that is their mission.
yearightify: I need to say that you are extremely misguided if you think that the function of a church is to primarily help poor people. Your entire argument is based on that false notion. Having said that, I readily admit that there are certain "ministries" that exist to dupe folks out of money.... just like any other entity out there.
yearightify: Do African American and gay/lesbian churches exist? Do women go to church? Rhetorical questions of the day with self evident answer. Sweeping generalizations about a particular group is borderline "intolerant", don't you think? Just stop and really think about what you are saying.
yearightify: Can you explain how churches fail to do a lot for humanity? What does that mean in your world?
YManCyberDude: Many people sure do hate Christianity these days... And it's the in thing to do so...
PeteyThePiranhaPlant: And when the money is used for "good", most commonly in missionary work, their intent isn't to help people, it's to convert more people to their religion.
David Simons: I totally agree with EVERYTHING you just said. And, it's sad because these Churches could be a very powerful force for good in our world if they wanted to. But, instead, they want to KEEP all that money for themselves and use it on houses, lands, expensive clothes, vacations, vacation houses, and the list goes on and on and on of the things that THEY spend this money on. And, very little of it is actually spent on helping the poor or doing other things that would actually benefit society, etc.,
PeteyThePiranhaPlant: Very true. The biggest irony behind this video is that Starbucks supports equal rights and does a lot for humanity. Churches do just the opposite.
David Simons: And, don't forget, they preach nothing but hate and intolerance, too, for gays, blacks, women, and the list goes on and on of the people (or groups of people) that they hate. My Grandma went to the grave thinking that she was an evil, evil person (because when she was younger, she had an abortion and she LIVED with that guilt and fear that the CHURCH instilled into her over this and she died HORRIFIED that she was going to go to hell when she died. This is the kind of thing Churches do to people
David Simons: I totally agree. That's been MY experience, too, with Churches (and preachers). In fact, my former Pastor had a service where he wanted to "honor ALL the Dr's and Nurses" one week. Then, another week, he wanted to "honor ALL the lawyers." You get the picture. He wanted to honor all the RICH people. I asked him why it was ALWAYS the rich people that he wanted to honor. He said, "Well, the poor people already know that they have a need for God. But, the rich don't know this at all." LOL
Keopro: Th irony of this considering Gloria Jeans' connections to Hillsong.
H8meBreakme: Brb; Crying over the fact that this guy just called the Americano an "Americana".
michaelgareth: This is so painfully familiar.
christianityisbad: christianity is a lie! exposingchristianity . com
E Nash: Did you not get his joke? Or are you the only one allowed to parody/
E Nash: Not only that, but the actual quote, I believe, says that "religion is the opiate of the masses," a sentiment that I happen to believe wholeheartedly. Religion (at least for me, the Christian religion) is definitely an opiate--- It soothes pain like nothing else and gives me a feeling that, as Julian of Norwich put it, "all shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well."
NoEmailJustRespondin: CONT... based on whether or not they seek Christ in a genuine way? Again, no disrespect, but just as Paul said, the catholic church is a prime example of those described in Romans 10:2, where it was said by Paul that there are those who have a genuine zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. Again, I'm not dismissing the zeal, dedication or pursuit of God but their teachings stray faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from biblical truth. May the Lord direct you in paths of righteousness.
NoEmailJustRespondin: Judy...Forgive me, but I must make a comment or two if I may ;) Hey, you've used the word "parish" and "diocese" a few times in your multiple posts. Have you been attending a catholic church? No disrespect in any shape, form or fashion. I mean not to offend, but I have yet to know of ANY catholic church that teaches about Christ and salvation in it's true biblical form. Based on what they believe an teach, they don't know the Lord. You said you choose based on a community (church?); CONT
E Nash: This is just as stupid, in its own way..... to restrict the privilege of giving, to only its members. I'm sure the intent is good, I'm sure many people would think that's awesome and laudable, but it misses the whole point of giving!!! Don't let the right hand know what the left hand is doing. We don't give to church based on guilt, or riches, or need, or to impress, or any other reason other than that God commands it. Any restrictions/encouragement about giving are bogus. Read the Bible.
E Nash: Thank you for your followup to my snipey comment. I am sorry for it, and I'm even sorrier that any church calling itself Christian would refuse entry to any person for any reason! That is appalling. I wish you had been able to talk to the minister about this. It helps me just to remember that churches--- all churches--are made up of sinners, just like me---some nicely dressed, others not so much, but that our standard is Christ Jesus himself, and we all fall far short of his perfection!
E Nash: don't believe this story
E Nash: I'm with you! It absolutely mocks megachurches (of which I am also not a fan)
