His first recording with the band, 1975's Fly by Night, was fairly successful,
He is best-known as the drummer and lyricist for the rock band Rush

tamborcaliente: What I love of this great drummer is the synchronization with the rest of the rush band hitting every melody note with the bass and guitar player. One of the best drummers ever. Amazing coordination.Age does not matter. Maestro of drums, Inspiration for all world percussion players.

martycranford1: Musicians evolve. For example; Are there guitar players out there today that are better than Jimi Hendrix or Eddie Van Halen? Absolutely! But it takes somebody like a Jimmy Hendrix or an Eddie Van Halen to do things during a certain era that no one is doing! That's what gets musicians to evolve . That is what you have with Neil, he did for drumming what Hendrix and Van Halen did for guitar playing. He is the greatest ever.

David W: Neil's idol was Buddy Rich. It's all subjective anyway. There are probably things Buddy could do better and things Neil could do better, they are/were both great.

David W: Completely study his work on his albums and come back and comment. if you still feel this way, please set a doctors appointment soon to have your ears checked.

David W: Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and I will respect that and gracefully disagree. I have been listening to them since the late 70s and consider them to be one of the most talented and heartfelt bands ever. Rush is a wonderfully talented band, "in my opinion", of course.

David W: today's modern drummers are 100 times better?...clearly a very immature statement by someone that probably knows little about drumming. Please listen to his works prior to making a statement like this. I bet if you ask any of today's modern drummers they will also say they were influenced by Neil and disagree with your statement that they are 100 times better. I would recommend clearing your ears next time before making these kind of statements.

Jim Elder: Judge ye not a drummer by his solos. No top ten lists here (they're a subjective nonsense). Suffice to say that there is no better drummer than Neil Peart, nor Keith Moon, nor my friend Ed Troscianiuk. Let the abuse begin! Over to you, trolls. I'll never visit here again anyway ;-)
